Accra, Aug. 25, GNA – The Ministry of Information and National Orientation has been urged to show films of civil wars in African countries to let the public appreciate their destructive nature in order to avoid violence at the December polls. The Environmentally Concerned Citizens Association of Ghana (ECCAG) said in a statement that the Ministry should be joined in this campaign by the Electoral Commission.
The films should be screened on television and by the Information Services Department across the country, it said. “The films on civil wars should be screened in the regions, districts, communities and on television of what happened in Liberia, Kenya, Sudan and Zimbabwe, and even in our own country, Bawku in the Upper East region,” said the statement, signed by Mr J. Y. Aidoo, National President.
The Association, which has been touring the country, organising fire prevention, wildlife conservation, tree planning and greening campaigns, called for a peaceful election through national education programmes.
“We are all deeply concerned about what happened during the recent limited voters’ registration exercise at some centres in the country, which was marked with violence, and this should serve as a warning to Ghanaians to avoid such acts during this year’s election,” it said.
