GRI SPORTS Floodlight for Accra stadium in progress

Accra, Mr E. T. Mensah, Minister of Youth and Sports, has cut the sod for work to begin on installation of new floodlights at the Accra sports stadium. The project, estimated at 2.88 million Netherlands guilders and being undertaken by F. Malawi, local representatives of Philips International, is expected to be completed by December this year.

According to Mr Mensah, a loan of 2.5 million guilders was contracted from ABN Anro Bank of the Netherlands for the project. Under the agreement, Ghana government is to provide 15 per cent of the loan in addition to 500 MC. The minister, who said government has fulfilled its obligations, added that “it’s now the turn of the contractors to deliver.” Mr Mensah said that sports development in a any country cannot be financed solely by government and called on the private sector for assistance.
