Accra, Jan. 21, GNA – The Government will receive 300 Tata buses and 1,000 tractors from the Indian Association of Industries by the end of March, to support the transportation and agriculture sectors.
This was disclosed by Professor Mike Oquaye, Ghana’s High Commissioner for Indian when addressing an end-of-year together in for Greater Accra New Patriotic Party (NPP) constituency executives and sympathizers in the region at the weekend.
Prof Oquaye said the recent visit by President J.A. Kufuor to India had paid dividend in opening up the country and that more investors were showing interest in the economy.
He said as a kind gesture to the government, the Indian government had fully equipped the Kofi Annan peace centre with a modern Information Communication Technology facility valued at 100 million dollars.
He said the prudent management of the economy, effective practice of our democratic tenets and the fact that Ghana was almost reaching the HIPC decision point, had made the Japanese government to reverse its policy to support any HIPC nation and gave out 82 million dollars grant.
Nii Adjiri Blankson, a leading member of the NPP, expressed concerned about the level of friction between the MPs and constituency executives, especially in Greater Accra and called on the elders to resolve the problems before campaigning begins.
He urged party members to be patient and tolerant during this year’s electioneering period. “Politics is not a war but rather a game of persuasion, lobbying and diplomacy,” he added.
Sheihk I.C. Quaye, Greater Accra Regional Minister, charged party members not to relent on their oars but they should strive to maintain “the flame that our forefathers lit.”
