Greater Accra NDC celebrates mothers

The women’s wing of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the Greater Accra Region has congratulated Ghanaian women as the world marks Mother’s Day today, Sunday 14 May.

In a statement, they have described mothers as “homemakers” and inspirers who work hard and make lots of sacrifices to protect their children and give them the opportunity to dream big about the future.

The full statement signed by Mrs Felicia Mekpoi Bortey, the head of the women’s wing, read: “On behalf of the Greater Accra Regional women’s wing of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) and on my own behalf, I wish to congratulate all mothers for their sacrificial and hard work to keep our families over the years.

“As we celebrate yet another Mother’s Day, there will be various activities among families, in churches and elsewhere to honour and celebrate mothers for their love, dedication, and hard work to their children.

“Some other Ghanaians will be honouring persons who are not their biological mothers, but who have filled the all?important role of a mother in their lives.

“Mothers are the homemakers. Mothers inspire us. They work hard and make lots of sacrifices to protect us their children and give us the opportunity to dream big about the future while helping us realise our ambitions.

“However, as old as we are today, our mothers deserve our gratitude and appreciation for their selfless and unconditional love. Mothers are the sweetest gift from God to us. There is no way we can ever really thank our mothers for all that they continue to do for us.

“We must continue to remind ourselves of the various sacrifices our mothers make, and keep them in our prayers, while also celebrating them. We must reciprocate by respecting and showing love to our mothers. It is their day today, let’s celebrate them.

“As a mother, I know the challenges and rewards of being an adviser, mentor and a friend to my children. I am especially mindful of the exceptional commitment of single mothers and mothers with special needs.

“Once again, I salute all mothers on this occasion and I pray that you are able to celebrate with the mothers in your life.

Happy Mothers’ Day!
