Greater Accra Division of GMA calls for suspension of residency training

Accra, Aug. 18, GNA – The Greater Accra Division of Ghana Medical Association (GMA) has called for the immediate suspension of the new modality of sponsoring Residency training by the Ministry of Health (MOH).

It said in addition, all qualified candidates should be fully sponsored by the Ministry while the Ministry and Ghana Health Service (GHS) initiate discussions involving all stakeholders on the future financing on the post-graduate residency programme.

The call was made in a resolution adopted at the second regular meeting of the Division in Accra on Sunday, August 15.

A statement issued and signed by Dr. Ernest Yorke, Divisional Secretary, said:” we request the National Executive Committee GMA to take steps and liaise with the Ghana College of Physicians and Surgeons, MOH and GHS for an immediate suspension of the new modality of sponsoring residency training by the Ministry”.

“Failure of the immediate suspension of this payment policy by August 31, would lead to a nationwide action in solidarity with the prospective residents”, it added.
