Traditional leaders in the Greater Accra Region have thrown their support behind former President John Dramani Mahama’s bold vision to establish a new national capital city.
Speaking at a durbar in Dodowa during Mahama’s ‘Thank You’ tour, the Nungua Mantse and President of the Greater Accra Regional House of Chiefs, Oboade Notse King Professor Odaifio Welentsi III, expressed strong confidence in the former president’s leadership and plans for national development.
“Our confidence in President Mahama remains high,” the chief said, referencing the positive momentum under Mahama’s ‘Reset Ghana’ agenda.
The endorsement follows Mahama’s announcement that feasibility studies are underway for the creation of a new capital city to ease the growing pressure on Accra from urban congestion, infrastructure strain, and population growth.
The envisioned city, which would span parts of Greater Accra, Eastern, and Volta Regions, aims to serve as a secondary administrative and commercial hub to support the country’s long-term development.
The traditional leader’s backing adds weight to Mahama’s proposal, signaling strong grassroots support for a transformative plan that could reshape Ghana’s urban future.
