Graphic, Merchant Bank organise Health Screening exercise

Accra, July 9, GNA – Graphic Communications Group in collaboration with Merchant Bank Limited on Saturday organised a health screening exercise for the people of Adabraka, a suburb of Accra and its environs. The screening exercise forms part of the two companies’ social responsibility to the community in which they operate.

About one 100 million million cedis was committed to the exercise which is to be an annual affair.

Pro Health Consultancy, a Korle Bu Teaching Hospital based Non Governmental organisation of health professional including a Graphic Communication Group resident Doctor screened the people for various diseases including malaria, Hypertension, Urinary tract infection, among other.

Free drugs would be administered to minor illness while those who needed extra attention would be referred to Korle Bu.

Mr Ibrahim Awal, Marketing and Public Affairs General Manager of Graphic said the company would fail to meet its benchmark of a good corporate citizen if they chose to spend all their profit on the company alone.

Graphic, he noted would not have achieved its successes if the people of Adabraka had not co-existed peacefully with them. Mr Awal said it was therefore a step in the right direction to give back to the community by investing in their health. The exercise, he said, would be extended to other areas and regions of the country.

Mr Ernest Tawiah Nunoo, Head Retail Banking, Merchant Bank called on the Sub- Metro Assembly to obtain a database of companies and small businesses within the community and seek assistance from them to help develop Adabraka. He said much as the exercise was being undertaken it was better to be proactive when

it came to the issue of health. Adabraka, he said, is situated right near the estuary of the Korle Lagoon and was therefore, disadvantaged, as all waste materials flowing to the Lagoon had to pass through it. He advised the people to maintain good hygiene, keep good lifestyles and undertake healthy activities.
