Accra, Dec. 11, GNA – One Hundred and Seventy-two students from the Ghana Telecom University College (GTUC) graduated over the weekend, with a call on them to apply their expertise to positively transform the telecommunication sector.
Dr Osei K. Darkwa, President of GTUC, expressed confidence in the capability of the graduands and urged them to use their knowledge and skills with the help of technology to lift the telecommunication industry to greater heights.
Dr Darkwa who was speaking at the first congregation ceremony of the University in Accra, encouraged the graduands to cultivate hardwork, passion and ambition for their profession, adding “I encourage you to dream big. They say the sky is the limit. I’ll say go beyond the sky. “Challenge yourselves to pursue the impossible and you will go further than you could ever imagine.”
Dr Darkwa said GTUC had built academic partnerships with a number of institutions in areas including academic and research cooperation, information technology development and exchange programmes. The institutions included the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), Massachusetts Institute of Technology in the United States, Aalborg University in Denmark, University of Applied Sciences, Germany, University of Hertfordshire, United Kingdom and Korean Advanced Institute for Science and Technology, South Korea. Professor Peter Donkor, Pro Vice-Chancellor of KNUST, challenged the graduands to use appropriate technology to improve the efficacy of the telecommunication sector. “Your challenge is to help systems work through the use of appropriate technology and improve upon efficiency,” he said. In a speech read on his behalf, Mr Alex Tettey-Enyo, Minister of Education, commended the university authorities for their contributions towards supporting GTUC to carve a niche for itself in the fields of information technology, telecommunications, engineering and information technology business. “I applaud the foresight of the leadership of this great institution that has resulted in the offering of programmes at the certificate, diploma, degree, master’s and doctoral levels in a relatively short period of time,” he said.
