Grace Baptist Church celebrates charity day

The Grace Baptist Church at Amakom, Kumasi, has celebrated its charity day with a call to the church to do more to support people in genuine need, the poor and the underprivileged.

The Reverend Robert Kwadwo Asante, the Senior Pastor, said it should not limit itself to only the spiritual growth of the people but also their physical well being as well.

Rev Asante said the church was making efforts to positively affect the lives of the congregation and these include scholarships for needy students, employable skills training, accommodation and giving out monthly remittances to the aged, the young and the incapacitated.

He said for this year alone, about GH¢70,000.00 had been earmarked in scholarship, skills training and upkeep of needy members.

The day is traditionally used to show generosity to those in dire socio-economic situation and shower them with gifts including rice, clothing, footwear, electrical appliances, and detergents.

Rev Asante expressed appreciation to the congregation for the enthusiastic response to the appeal in support of the socially-disadvantaged.

Mrs. Elizabeth Pokuah Addai, the Vice-Chairperson of the Welfare Committee, said there was no doubt that the donation would make some difference in the lives of the beneficiaries.

One of the beneficiaries, Madam Ramatu Ahmed, told the GNA that she could not stop thanking the church for the life-saving intervention.
