GPRTU urges members not to politicise activities of Union

Tepa (Ash), April 10, GNA – Nana Yaw Owusu, Ashanti Regional Chairman of the Ghana Private Road Transport Union (GPRTU), has implored members not to politicize activities of the union. He indicated that the union which operated under the Trades Union Congress (TUC) was non-partisan and that it behoved especially the executives, to refrain from using their activities as avenues to openly declare their support for any political party. Nana Owusu was speaking at the inauguration of the newly elected executive officers of the women’s wing of the Tepa branch of the GPRTU at Tepa in the Ahafo-Ano North District.

The new executive has Mrs Ernestina Oppong as chairperson, Mrs Agnes Kontoh, vice-chairperson, Mrs Beatrice Appiah-Mensah, secretary and Madam Hannah Frimpong, trustee. Nana Owusu cautioned the executive not to lord it over their members but use their time and mandate profitably by putting in place vibrant programmes to benefit the members. Mrs Agnes Fordjour, Regional Chairperson of the women’s wing of the GPRTU, advised members of the union to give their support to the executives without compromising their responsibilities as union members and that they should pay their dues and also attend meetings regularly.
