The Ghana Private Road Transport Union (GPRTU) has hinted it will sanction drivers who will flout the new directive to reduce transport fares.
This follows the union’s decision to reduce transport fares by 5 percent due to a reduction in fuel which takes effect today.
The National Petroleum Authority NPA last week announced a ten percent reduction in oil prices to reflect a drop in oil prices on the world market.
Previous reviews of transport fares had triggered confusion among drivers and commuters.
General Secretary of GPRTU Stephen Okudzeto told Starr Business all members of GPRTU are obliged to comply with the new fares.
“If you don’t comply, your loading rights can be withdrawn.
“As a unit, we also run our unions on instructions and constitution, and if the constitution says you should do something, and you don’t do it, the laws will apply,” he warned.
