Accra, Oct,12, GNA.- The Ghana Private Road and Transport Union (GPRTU) of the Trades Union Congress (TUC) has directed that with immediate effect, tickets issued at the lorry stations should be redesigned to provide space for the cell phone numbers of dispatching Station Masters. This would afford passengers the opportunity to contact the officials and report about the conduct of drivers in case of over speeding or reckless driving. Mr Stephen K Okudzeto, General Secretary of the Union, issued the directive in an interview with the Ghana News Agency in Accra on Wednesday. He said all reports received from passengers about drivers would be investigated and appropriate disciplinary action taken against offenders. He also called on regional executives of the GPRTU to up-date all records of office holders in their respective regions and send copies to the national secretariat. Mr Okudzeto also said GPRTU would revive its Guards, and retrain them to augment the efforts of the police to bring about sanity on the roads. In a related development, the GPRTU has announced that following its recent quadrennial conference held in Tamale, Alhaji Yaw Manu had been elected National Chairman, with Alhaji E. A. Tetteh taking the position of National Vice Chairman. Mr Stephen K. Okudzeto, was elected General Secretary, Mr Moro Abubakari Fusseini, Deputy General Secretary in-charge of Administration, and Mr A. B. Y. Flashman, Deputy General Secretary for Operations. Mr Kwame Kumah and Mr Kwesi Ansah were elected First and Second Trustees respectively.
