GPRTU Donate Street Bulbs

Saltpond (Central Region), 5 Nov., The Mankessim No.1 branch of the Ghana Private Road Transport Union (GPRTU) has donated eight street light bulbs worth three million cedis to the Mfantsiman District Chief Executive, Mr George Kuntu Blankson, for use at Mankessim. The chairman of the branch, Mr Robert Kwesi Eshun who made the presentation deplored frequent power cuts in the town. Mr Eshun said criminals have taken advantage of the situation to harass the people and appealed to the Electricity Company of Ghana to replace the transformers with more powerful ones and the cables which are too old. Mr Bankson thanked the GPRTU and reiterated the call on indivduals and organisations to assist the government in developing the communities. He gave the assurance that the district assembly will complement the effort made by the branch to improve the lighting system in Mankessim. Mr Blankson warned people who have been indulging in market toll deals at Mankessim market to stop their activities. He said the police are investigating a case involving three people arrested at the market for issuing unauthorised tickets to traders and added that they will be put before the tribunal as soon as investigations are concluded.
