GPRTU Chairman calls for transparency

Kintampo (B/A), June 2, GNA – Mr. Yak Seidu, Chairman of Kintampo District Branch of Ghana Private Road Transport Union (GPRTU), has urged the national leadership to ensure transparency, faithfulness and honesty in their dealings with members so as to maintain the trust and confidence reposed in them.

Mr. Seidu told Ghana News Agency at Kintampo that as leaders of a transport organization that deals with the movement of people and goods, they needed to be very tactful and diplomatic in their day-to-day activities to promote peace and understanding.

“It is the responsibility of the national leaders to resolve problems that confront vehicle owners, drivers, mates and passengers to enhance the development of the sector”, he said.

He said the welfare of those at the lower ranks was paramount and therefore need your support to sustain their interests in rendering services to the people.

Mr. Seidu advised drivers to respect passengers “as they are the major shareholders in the transport sector”.

Mr. Seidu, the adjudged best GPRTU district chairman in the region at the May Day rally at Wenchi cautioned drivers not to drink while driving as the alcohol could influence their sense of judgement, which could cause accident.

Transport owners should ensure regular maintenance of their vehicles and cover them with all the necessary and relevant travelling documents to make them road-worthy and also to guard against accidents. The GPRTU chairman called on the government to open vehicle testing offices and income tax centres at all district capitals to enhance the activities of the transport sector and to promote the development of the districts.
