GPRTU branch to construct new offices

Dormaa-Ahenkro (B/A) March 23, GNA – The main branch of Ghana Private Road Transport Union in Dormaa Ahenkro in Brong Ahafo is to construct new offices and market stalls at the cost of more than 700 million cedis.

The construction of the three-storey building, which is to be financed by the Union, would take-off before the end of the year.

Mr. Addai Frimpong, Chairman, who disclosed this at the Union’s Annual General Meeting for the year 2003 at Dormaa-Ahenkro said so far 10,000 cement blocks had been moulded for the project.

He commended members for their dedication to duty and sense of discipline as the Union did not record a single accident last year.

The GPRTU Chairman announced that the Union had completed the construction of a two-seater water closet toilet near the lorry park at the cost of 17 million cedis for passengers.

Mr. Frimpong called for peaceful co-existence and unity among members to ensure the growth and development of the Union.

Chief Superintendent Charles Samuel Moses Brew (Junior), Dormaa District Police Commander, speaking on road accidents attributed some of the causes to over-loading, over-taking and alcoholism on the part of drivers.

He urged drivers and other motorists to be extra careful on the roads so as to minimize fatal road accidents.

Mr. C.S.K. Ofosu-Marnuh, Regional Internal Auditor of the Union at Sunyani who presented the audit report of the Union also commended the Union for the good work done but added that there was more room for improvement.

He recommended to the Union to purchase a computer to upgrade its information system to enhance its work.

The Regional Internal Auditor praised the Union for having granted 40 million cedis loans to its local branches and asked them to repay the loans promptly.
