Kintampo (B/A) June 12, GNA – The government would continue to provide logistics and materials to ensure the successful implementation of the National Forest Plantation Development (NFPD) programme, Alhaji Collins Dauda, Minister for Lands and Forestry, has said. He said the progress of work “is encouraging and satisfactory,” explaining, the joy and enthusiasm of the workers on the field was an expression and indication of hope and readiness that the project would be successful with an achievable target.
Alhaji Dauda was speaking at an inspection tour to the Asantekwaa NFPD project site in the Kintampo Municipality where 15 hectares out of a demarcated 50 hectares degraded forest, earmarked for re-afforestation, had been cleared, pegged and planted with teak seedlings by 50 employees. The project is under the supervision Mr. Gregory Deri Chemogo, Kintampo District Manager of Forest Service Division (FSD) and his team. The Kintampo FSD district comprises the four politically administrative areas of the Kintampo Municipality, Kintampo South as well as Nkoranza North and South districts.
The Minister assured the workers of the government’s preparedness to ensure the prompt and constant payment of their wages. He distributed a Khaki overall attire and a matchet to each of them to motivate them and enhance their performance. The three-day tour to some selected NFDP sites in the region enabled the Minister to see the progress being made and also to acquaint himself with challenges of the project on the ground. Alhaji Dauda advised the workers to attach utmost importance and seriousness to the project for their own benefit and that of the larger society. The Minister ended the tour with a visit to the Jema Compartment 60 (Bosomoa Forest Reserve) in the Kintampo South District where a demarcated area of 70 hectres of degraded forest is also being re-afforested. About 70 workers are working on it and 13 hectares have so far been cleared with 10 hectares out of the 13 pegged and planted with teak seedlings. 12 June 10 Attention Subscribers, item 08 ends our second transmission for today
