Govt would pay living wages if economy improves

Kpando, May 1, GNA – The Volta Regional Minister, Mr Kwasi Owusu-Yeboa said the New Patriotic Party (NPP) government would pay living wages to workers if the economy improves and called on them to work harder to increase productivity.

He observed that the region required a healthy population to work towards an improved economy hence the need for the people to embrace the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS).

The Regional Minister was speaking at the Volta Regional May Day rally held at Kpando.

Mr Maxwell Akoto-Mireku, Volta Regional Secretary of the TUC, read the TUC Secretary General’s May Day Address.

Twelve workers including three women from the 10 affiliates of the Trades Union Congress (TUC) in the region received various prizes for their meritorious services over the years.

Earlier, the workers carrying placards some of which read “SSNIT Pension Is A Killer”, “Give Us Cap 30 Now”, “Workers Are Demanding Better Daily Bread” and Let’s Have Peaceful Elections” went on a route March through the principal streets of the town.
