Accra, Feb. 21, GNA – President John Agyekum Kufuor has re-affirmed his Government’s determination to continue to work towards the promotion of the freedom of all Ghanaians to motivate their creativity.
This way, Ghana would regain the path that it lost, which was to braze the path of freedom for Africa, he said, when Dr T.L Osborn, a world acclaimed Evangelist and Missionary, paid a courtesy call on him at the Castle, Osu, on Tuesday.
Accompanying him were Heads of the Christian Council, Ghana Pentecostal Council and the National Association of Christian and Charismatic Churches.
Dr Osborn, 84, who has travelled to more than 90 countries, spreading the Gospel, first visit to the country was in 1956 when he held a crusade at the Old Pollo Grounds in Accra. A year later, Dr Kwame Nkrumah, Ghana’s First President stood on the same Grounds to proclaim the country’s Independence.
President Kufuor noted that if people allowed fellow feeling to underpin their duty to live in freedom, admitted to their shortcomings and treated each other with respect, the world would be a happy place for all.
He described as unfortunate the intolerance and dogmatism which had been allowed to affect common humanity so much. President Kufuor said both the Politician and the Clergy shared a common duty and that was to serve humanity.
He said he was much impressed by the visit of Dr Osborn to the country: “You came here exactly 50 years ago, on the eve of our Independence. Coming again on the eve of our Golden Jubilee should mean something for us.” Dr Osborn called on Ghanaians to be thankful to God for the nation’s belief in freedom. The renowned Evangelist noted that laws could be made to punish people but not to make people to be good and said he was greatly impressed with what was happening in the country. The country is moving forward. He encouraged Ghanaians to live in dignity, honour and with faith in God. Dr Osborn presented three books on his Evangelical Ministry to President Kufuor. 21 Feb. 06
