Gov’t urged to improve women’s living standards

The Government has been urged to formulate policies that would help improve and develop rural women in their fight against poverty.

Prophetess Elizabeth Abredu Quayeba, in-charge of the Promise Land Prayer Camp of the Christ Apostolic Church (CAC), was speaking at a meeting with the youth, especially girls, to discuss their welfare at Anum Apapam in the Eastern Region.

The camp, apart from its religious obligation, has established preparatory schools at Anum Apapam and Achiansa both in the Ayensuano District and is in the process of establishing a vocational institution and a “Promise Land Home” for orphans.

Prophetess Abredu Quayeba suggested the need for policy makers to link issues concerning women with development.

She urged women advocacy groups to intensify public education in the fight against poverty and form a consensus that would help to champion the concerns of women who were mostly considered poor.

Prophetess Quayeba said the camp had a core mandate to help champion the cause of women and children through interventions to empower them to go into high income-earning activities.

She said specific commitments were required to address the needs of the vulnerable and to explore ways to mitigate the effects of the standards of living of women and children.

The Prophetess said women would be able to support their homes if they were supported in production ventures.
