Govt urged to come out with cost schedule for health care delivery

Accra, Aug 8, GNA – Dr Kwame Antwi, National Secretary of the Society of Private Medical and Dental Practitioners (SPMDP) has called on the Government to come out with a comprehensive cost schedule for health care delivery in Ghana.

He said the patients attending public hospitals and health facilities paid for only 20 per cent the services they enjoyed, without paying for other costs such as overhead costs.

Dr Antwi, who was speaking to the Ghana News Agency (GNA) in Accra on the implication of government subsidies on health care delivery, said the rest of the health delivery cost was borne by Government. “The implication is that the patient is underpaying the doctor in private practice, because we don’t enjoy any subsidy anywhere, and we cannot go for full cost recovery too.” Dr Antwi reiterated the need for a cost structure for proper understanding of and payment for health services.
