Govt to sell low cost houses to occupiers

Accra, Feb.5, GNA- Government has decided that the Ministry of Works and Housing should immediately take inventory of the stock of Low Cost Houses nationwide.

This is to have the current values established and discounted at a reasonable rate, in order to sell them first to the sitting tenants or in the event of their inability to pay, to other prospective buyers. Mr Yaw Osafo-Maafo, Finance and Economic Planning Minister announced in the 2004 Budget Statement and Economic Policy of the Government to Parliament on Thursday.

Mr Osafo-Maafo said the revenue to be generated would be used as seed money, to commence effectively the Rural Housing Programmes of the Government.
