Gov’t to rescue Siblinor community

Siblinor, an isolated community on a hill in the Upper Manya Krobo District, will soon have electricity, a health centre, portable water, accessible road and a classroom block to salvage it from its current poor state.

Mr Victor Smith, the caretaker Eastern Regional Minister, gave this assurance when he visited the community in the company of experts from the Community Water and Sanitation Agency (CWSA), road and architectural and other technical engineers to do a feasibility assessment of the area.

He said the government had already made necessary moves to ameliorate the current challenges facing the Siblinor community and that work would start before the middle of the year.

“Government has good plans for you and it will ensure that you get all the basic amenities you need including the immediate construction of a new school block for your children,” he said.

The minister on behalf of the government presented school uniforms and other educational materials to the pupils in the community.

Siblinor has a population of about 800 and is a mainly farming and beads-making community that has no basic amenity.

The community has only one private school wretchedly built with 150 pupils and seven pupil teachers who can hardly express themselves in English.

The teachers walk each day from Segesua and other surrounding towns before getting to the school.

Due to water problem, the pupils wake up early to walk long distances to fetch water and end up reporting to school very late and tired.

“They are brilliant but because of tiredness, they mostly sleep in class,” Mr Isaac Kwao, an Assistant Headmaster of the school, told the Ghana News Agency (GNA).

He expressed gratitude to the government for accepting to adopt the school as a public institution since last year and also planning to construct a new classroom block for them.

Mr Kwao pleaded that government urgently provide textbooks and other study materials to enhance teaching in the school.
