Govt to provide tools for vocational and technical training

Mampong (Ash), June 28, GNA – Mr Daniel Appau Ohyeamang, Municipal Ch= ief Executive for Asante-Mampong, has said the government would provide tools and resources to enhance vocational and technical education. He said support would be given to the vocational and technical schools to enable them to create employment opportunities and anchor the nation’s socio-economic development.
He said it was time more attention was focused on these institutions adding, it was heart-warming that already some reforms had been introduced by the Ghana Education Service (GES) to bring improvement. Mr Ohyeamang was addressing the third graduation ceremony of the Mampon= g Technical College of Education at Asante-Mampong. Some 203 students graduated. He said it was important to make education relevant to the manpower and socio-economic needs of the nation. The Ashanti Regional Director of Education, Mr Joseph Onyinah, in a speech read for him noted that 93teacher development” was critical to th= e success of any education system.
It was for this reason that no effort should be spared to improve the quality teacher education. Mr Onyinah appealed to the new teachers to work hard to assist in the implementation of the new national post-basic technical and vocational education training (TVET) system. Madam Margaret Opoku, the Principal, said the college had made significant strides by way of physical infrastructure development, mentioning the refurbishment of staff bungalows, provision of washrooms, construction of septic tanks and the establishment of an Information Technology (IT) Centre. She, however, appealed for the construction of a science laboratory and additional students and staff accommodation. She commended the teaching staff for dedication and hard work and said she was confident that the graduates were going to make a difference.
