Gov’t to ensure more females acquire higher education

Accra, Sept. 17, GNA – Mrs Frema Osei-Opare, Deputy Minister of Manpower Development, Youth and Employment on Wednesday said government was committed to ensuring that more ladies acquired higher education for overall development.

Mrs Osei-Opare said even though some cultural practices inhibited the advancement of females, the affirmative action of government to ensure that consideration was given to female university admission applicants made it favourable for more females to be enrolled each year. Speaking at the 60th Anniversary Women’s Day Walk by Legon Ladies Club of the University of Ghana, the Deputy Minister said acquiring higher education would help put women in a position to be able to influence public policies to their advantage. She called on women not to be their own enemies but to support their own to progress in life. Professor Takyiwaa Manu, Director of the Institute for African Studies, advised the women to avoid eating fatty foods to enable them to lead a healthy life.

She said consumption of fatty foods as against vegetables and fruits was the cause of many diseases afflicting lot of people in the society. Prof. Manu urged the people to engage in physical exercises to keep their bodies fit. This year’s walk on the themed “Charting a New Course”, was from the University to Tetteh Quarshie Interchange and back.
