Govt to discuss Fulani issues -Veep

Accra, Sept. 20, GNA – Vice President John Dramani Mahama on Tuesday gave the assurance that government would soon come out with a strategy that would stem the perennial disturbances of Fulani herdsmen in the country.

He said discussions would be held at the national security level to find lasting solutions and to enable farming communities to go about their activities without any hindrance.

Vice President Mahama gave this assurance when Dr Kwesi Akyem Appiah- Kubi, Eastern Regional Minister, led members of the Kwahu Development Association to call on him at the Castle, Osu.

The delegation was at the Castle to thank him for gracing their annual Easter get-together held earlier this year and to appeal for the execution of some development projects in the area.

The delegation also complained of the behaviour and destructive activities of the Fulani herdsmen in the area.

Vice President Mahama said the activities of the Fulani herdsmen were not only in the Kwahu areas, but throughout the country and therefore needed a holistic, but tact and diplomatic approach to bring sanity in the country.

He said government was working round the clock to raise GH¢25 million to re-engineer the Kwahu roads and make them accessible to farmers and tourists as the area played a dual role of being a food basket and a tourist destination.

Mr Paul Ansong, Chairman of the Kwahu Town Development Association commended government for the progress of work on the Konogo-Kumawu-Kwahu water project and appealed to the contractors to expedite action to solve the perennial water problems of the area.

He appealed to government to support the area to work on the Nkwakaw- Atibie road, which was crucial for the development of the area.

Nana Ameyaw Gyensiamah, Kwaho Tafo Hene (Chief), appealed to government to complete the Donkorkrom Presbyterian hospital project, which was abandoned so many years ago.
