Govt to adopt uniform policy on unutilised acquired lands

Kpone (GAR), Dec. 1, GNA – Government is considering the adoption of a uniformed approach to resolve problems encountered by the various traditional councils on the release of unutilised government acquired lands in the country.

President John Agyekum Kufuor, who announced this on Wednesday, said the Government would soon come out with a comprehensive programme to deal with the problem. “It is just a matter of time,” he added. He was responding to an appeal by Nii Tetteh Otu II, Paramount Chief of the Kpone Traditional Area at a durbar of the chiefs and people at Kpone to round off his two-day tour of the Greater Accra Region. President Kufuor said anyone who had encroached on any of the unutilised acquired lands would be investigated and the law would take its cause to normalise the acquisition.

Nii Otu in his appeal said, “One area of great worry to the people of Kpone is the problem with our land for which we petitioned your office about three years ago. The situation now is so surprising that my people and I wish to appeal to you to consider our petition and get the unutilised area released to us”.

He said individuals who acquired the lands from the Tema Development Corporation for farming purposes had re-zoned them into residential plots and sold them to other people without paying anything to the Corporation.

President Kufuor also addressed New Patriotic Party (NPP) rallies at Tema Community Four and Ashaiman as part of the tour.
