Gov’t statement on World Radio Day

On the occasion of World Radio Day, the Government of Ghana wishes to extend its felicitations to all organizations and individuals involved in the radio industry in Ghana.

Government notes with satisfaction the tremendous growth in radio in Ghana and the attendant contribution it has made towards information dissemination and awareness creation among the populace.

Commenting on the significance of the day, President John Dramani Mahama observed that “the deepening of Ghana’s democracy, a feat which has been acknowledged globally, could not have been achieved without the influential role that radio plays in terms of the provision of a vast platform and space for the airing of views by our citizens”.

President Mahama added that “whiles radio has become perhaps the leading avenue for the actualization of the right to free expression, it is important as we celebrate this day, that radio stations and presenters seize the opportunity to reflect over their performance thus far with a view to consolidating the gains made and upholding ethical standards .

Government wishes to congratulate all involved in the industry and hopes that the coming years would witness even more constructive engagement between it and radio entities.
