Govt spends 3.4 billion on projects in Zabzugu/Tatale District

Zabzugu (N/R), Jan. 24, GNA- The government had spent 3.4 billion cedis on development projects in the Zabzugu-Tatale District over the past three years with road, education and health development given priority attention.

Alhaji Yakubu Bukari, the District Chief Executive announced this at a People’s Assembly at Zabzugu on Friday at which he explained the development projects the assembly had undertaken in the past three years.

He said the assembly had spent 214 million cedis in sponsoring students in tertiary institutions and 1.6 billion cedis provided for the construction of two rural clinics and nurses’ quarters at Woribogu and Nakpali, and a 20-bed ward at the Zabzugu District Health Centre. The DCE announced that the Assembly had built some market stalls at Zabzugu, Tatale and Nakpali, as well as an abattoir at Zabzugu The Assembly had also constructed a three-unit quarters with kitchen and sanitary facilities for the police at Zabzugu, while it had renovated the Circuit Court building.

On water, Alhaji Bukari noted that the district had been one of the guinea worm endemic districts in the region and said the assembly had collaborated with the UNICEF, EU, the Church of Christ and the Social Investment Fund (SIF) under the Northern Region Water and Sanitation Programme (NORWASP) to provide 91 boreholes and rehabilitate 10 others. He said this had improved access to potable water in the communities, reducing the incidence of the guinea worm and other water-borne diseases in the area.
