The Ghana Baptist University College has held its eighth matriculation ceremony at Amakom, Kumasi, with a plea to government to give the private universities tax waivers.
The Reverend Dr. Kojo Osei-Wusuh, President of the university, said it must be appreciated that they have been providing a critical social service and therefore deserved tax exemptions, the prevailing unfavourable economic conditions notwithstanding.
The present huge taxes were suffocating them and things have to change to keep them going and complement government’s efforts at ensuring that all qualified students have access to tertiary education.
A total of 694 students were formally admitted to pursue various programmes, including Bachelor of Science in Business Administration and Diploma in Business Administration, with options in accounting, marketing, banking, finance, human resource management and entrepreneurship.
Including Bachelor in Theology, Diploma in Music and Diploma in Theology.
Rev. Dr. Osei-Wusuh advised the students to focus on their studies, saying, it must never be lost on them why they were in school.
“They should make good use of their time and take advantage of the school’s e-learning centre (electronic-learning), internet facilities, a computer laboratory, course books and journals to broaden their academic outlook.”
He counseled them to eschew all forms of truancy, alcoholism, drugs, lateness, laziness, examination malpractices and other socially reprehensible conducts, warning that, offenders would be sanctioned.
