Gov’t releases C5.1 billion to newly created district

Nyinahin (Ash), June 5, GNA- The government has released 5.1 billion cedis to the newly created Atwima Mponua District Assembly for infrastructure development.

Mr Kwadwo Adjei Darko, Minister of Local Government and Rural Development who told newsmen on Friday said since district is a new one, there was the need for all to assist the government to develop it.

He called on the people to show more interest in self-help projects and pay their taxes to support the government in providing social amenities for the area.

Mr Adjei Darko was speaking during a visit to Nyinahin on Wednesday, to acquaint himself with preparations made towards the take-off of the new district.

He advised the people to keep their environment clean so that the new assembly would not spend more revenue on refuse collection. Mr Charles Yeboah, Atwima District Chief Executive, expressed gratitude of the chiefs and people of the area for the creation of the new district.

He said the chiefs had given out about 30 hectares of land for the construction of new offices for the assembly and staff quarters. He expressed gratitude to the government for extending electricity and good drinking water to Nyinahin.

Nana Kwadwo Seinti, Brong Ahafo Regional Minister who stood in for Mr S.K. Boafo, Ashanti Regional Minister, advised the people to invest more in the education of their children.
