Striking workers of the Electoral Commission have pledged to call off their 3-day old strike action temporarily on two grounds.
The workers have given Employment and Manpower Development Minister Yaw Barimah up to the close of day (Wednesday) to send them a letter confirming a promise he made them at a meeting Wednesday, to resolve their demands over the Ghana Universal Salary Structure by the August 1.
The workers are also expecting favourable responses from their management during a meeting today over questions in respect of their Collective Bargaining Agreement.
The workers refused to call off their strike despite pleas from the Minister who said their action was a problem for government and the country.
Mr. Barimah?s words failed to convince the workers who insisted on a document to which they can hold government if their demands are not met by the 1st of August.
They also threatened to take further action if the pledge to resolve the GUSS demands is not honoured by the 1st.
The Chairman of the Workers Union Elvis Anna later told JoyNews the strike is continuing across the country until his office receives the commitment letter from the minister as well as a resolution of their demands over the Collective Bargaining Agreement with the EC?s management Wednesday.
