Gov’t presents Ebola protective equipment to schools

The Ministry of Health in collaboration with Ministry of Education presented Personal Protective Equipment to tertiary institutions across the country to aid in detecting the deadly Ebola virus among foreign students.

The items presented were 630 pieces of gloves, 500 goggles, 50 yellow gown, 432 face shield, 500 pieces of personal protective equipment, 50 aprons and 600 nose masks.

Dr Kwaku Agyemang-Mensah, Minister of Health said the Ebola outbreak in West Africa is known to be one of the most challenging problem the World Health Organisation (WHO) and its partners have been battling with, necessitating the declaration of Public Emergency of International Concern by WHO.

Dr Agyemang-Mensah said this has made the ministry not to relent on its efforts to put measures in place to make sure the disease does not enter the country.

He said the country’s entry points have been secured and thanked the Port health authorities, and personnel of Ghana Immigration Service and Customs Division of Ghana Revenue Authority for their efforts.

He gave the assurance the education to ensure public safety, to keep the environment clean as well as observation of personal hygiene to avoid cholera and other diseases would be sustained.

Professor Jane Naana Agyemang-Poku, Minister of Education said posters would be put at strategic points to ensure that people get the message to prevent Ebola from coming into the country.

The institutions that received the protective gear are the Vice Chancellor of Ghana, Conference of Rectors of Polytechnics, Principals of Collage of Education and Representative of Private Universities.

Prof Kwesi Yankah, Representative of Private Universities and President, Central University College thanked government for the equipment.
