Govt pledges C300m to Benso Secondary/Technical

Tarkwa (W/R) Nov 3, GNA- President John Agyekum Kufuor on Wednesday pledged 300 million cedis for infrastructure development at the Benso Secondary Technical School in the Wassa West District. He said he hoped the amount could assist the management to continue to render assistance to the students.

President Kufuor made the pledge in response to an appeal made by Osagyefo Kwamina Ennimil VI, Paramount Chief of Wassa Fiase Traditional Area, at the inauguration of an 85 Million dollar Carbon-In-Leach (CIL) plant at the Goldfields Ghana Limited mine at Tarkwa on Wednesday. He said another request for the school to be converted into a Teacher Training College would be referred to the Ministry of Education, Youth and Sports (MOEYS) to assess its feasibility and make the appropriate recommendations.

President Kufuor said the desire to upgrade Tarkwa into a Municipality required some criteria to be fulfilled and appealed to the chiefs and people to exercise patience.

He assured the people that facilities at the Tarkwa Government Hospital would be improved while rehabilitation of the Benso-Tarkwa road would be undertaken next year.

Osagyefo Ennimil called on the Company to maintain its cordial relationship with the communities within its catchments area and to continue with its social responsibilities to the people. He appealed to the Management of the Company to employ most of its workforce from the communities.
