Govt must return mission schools

A retired Assistant Director of Education at Apam, Mr. Jimmy Appiah, has reiterated the calls on Government to hand over the administration of mission schools to the missions for the strict enforcement of moral discipline.

He said in the past when the missions were handling their own schools, there was discipline and respect for the elderly.

Mr. Appiah said this at a lecture organised by the Christian Council of Ghana to mark the “Christian Home Week” at the Saint Joseph Catholic Church at Apam.

He said, “The indiscipline and the moral decadence we are witnessing today have been compounded by the negative programmes on television and poverty, which has made it impossible for most parents to cater for their children.”

Mr. Appiah said mission schools have what it takes to stem the tide of the negative attitudes that society is witnessing today.

Lieutenant Collins Akuoko of the Apam Salvation Army Church, said some parents were interested in producing children but failed to honour their parental obligations.

The Superintendent Minister of the Apam Mount Zion Methodist Church, the Very Reverend Emanuel Ebo Walters, appealed to Parent/Teacher Associations to draw better agendas for their meetings instead of always discussing financial matters to stimulate parents to attend meetings .**
