Gov’t launches investigation into cause of fire

Government on Thursday announced that investigations had commenced to determine the cause of the fire that gutted the premises of the Old Parliament House in Accra.

Government confirms the unfortunate outbreak of fire at the old Parliament House in the early hours of Thursday morning.

A statement issued by Mr Felix Kwakye Ofosu, Deputy Minister of Information and Media Relations noted that the fire which gutted the historically significant building where a number of important state bodies had their offices, was brought under control in a matter of hours by the Ghana National Fire and Rescue Service.

“Owing to the importance of the work of the state organisations affected by the fire, government wishes to assure all Ghanaians that urgent steps are being taken to find them temporary offices where they can continue their critical work for the state,” it said.
