Govt increases school fees for SSS

Government has announced a fee increase for the 477 government assisted senior secondary schools and 23 technical institutions in the country.

The increment takes effect from the 2005/2006 academic year.

Acting Director General of the GES Michael Nsowah says Students in boarding houses will now pay ?7200 as feeding fees per day, a ?1,000 more than what was being paid previously.

That means boarding students will pay ?712,800.00 per term in addition to other charges including fees, culture, sports and examinations.

Acting GES director general, Michael Nsowah explains that that cost of feeding has caused the adjustment in the fees.

? In all day students used to pay ?27,000 and the fees has been revised to ?31,000. The boarding fee had been reviewed from ?610,000 to ?712,000 because of the cost of feeding so these are the major areas of adjustments,? he said.

Mr Nsowah explained that the new amount was arrived at a fees fixing committee where reports were submitted to the council and the minister respectively.

He said new students and continuing students are paying the new revised fees with effective from this term.

?On the whole I think we have managed to arrive at an amicable amount,? he said.
