Gov’t imposes curfew on Akwatia

The Minister for the Interior Cletus Avoka has imposed a curfew on the town of Akwatia following the disturbances that took place today Sunday August 16, 2009.

The curfew will be effective from 7pm to 6am and takes immediate effect. The curfew will be effective in Akwatia and all environs within a 5 mile radius.

A statement from the Ministry of Information noted that government regrets the deteriorated security situation in Akwatia and has taken the decision to impose a curfew in order to restore security and safeguard life and property. A youngster was reported to have been hit by a stray bullet today in the area and several cases of reported violence following disturbances towards the re-run elections in the next two days in the area.
