The Ministry of Education, Youth and Sports has engaged the services of three groups of computer analysts to examine the 1,000 computers that had been abandoned at the Ghana Publishing Corporation (GPC) warehouse at Tema. The experts are from Florida, Council for Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR) and the Electrobox Global System Limited, a US company based at Winneba.
Mr Kwadwo Baah-Wiredu, the sector Minister, said these on Tuesday when he led officials of Electrobox Global System to inspect the abandoned computers. He said the Ministry would take a decision after the experts had submitted their findings to the ministry.
Regarding books at the warehouse, the Minister expressed regret that the Ghana Education Service has looked on unconcerned for the books to be abandoned. He said the excuse from certain quarters that they were abandoned as a result of the change over to the new education concept was not tenable because the books were still relevant.
The Ministry would, therefore, ensure that the books are distributed to schools that would need them. Earlier, the Minister presented two computers, a printer and other accessories donated by Electrobox Global System Limited to the Tema Manhean Secondary/Technical Institute.
Mr Baah-Wiredu visited the Solid Africa Mission Computer School at Tema, which offers free computer courses. He commended the management of the school for complementing government’s efforts at promoting Information Technology.
