Govt committed to the success of FCUBE

Kumasi, Sept 15, GNA – Ms. Patricia Appiagyei, Deputy Ashanti Regional Minister, on Wednesday said the Government was committed to provide the necessary resources and infrastructural facilities to ensure the success of the Free Compulsory Universal Basic Education (FCUBE) programme.
She said payment of the Capitation grant was ample demonstration of the Government’s resolve to ensure success of the FCUBE. Ms. Appiagyei gave the assurance when she toured some basic schools within the Kumasi Metropolis on Wednesday.
Accompanied by some officials of the Ashanti Regional Directorate of the Ghana Education Service (GES) Ms Appiagyei visited the State Experimental Primary and Junior Secondary School (JSS) and the Patase Metropolitan Assembly Primary and Junior Secondary School (JSS). Ms. Appiagyei who is also the Acting Kumasi Metropolitan Chief Executive interacted with pupils admitted to primary one and presented biscuits, hats, and sweets to them.
She said the Government had selected some primary schools where the pupils would be fed once a day on pilot basis.
Mr. B.A. Annan, Director in-charge of Physical Education and Sports at the GES, said the future development of school children depended on the dedication and commitment of teachers to give them a sound foundation and therefore asked the teachers to give the children a sound education.
Miss Sophia Appiah and Mrs. Eva Britwum, Heads of the Kindergarten Departments of the State Experimental primary and Patase M/A primary schools, said lack of adequate classrooms, textbooks, places of convenience and recreational centres were some of the problems facing the schools.
They therefore appealed to the GES to address the problems to enhance teaching and learning.
