Govt committed to equipping Fire Service Apea-Kubi

Koforidua, July 2, GNA – Dr Kwasi Akyem Apea-Kubi, the Eastern Regional Minister, has reiterated the commitment of the Government to provide the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) with the requisite logistics to enhance its operations.

He, therefore, challenged personnel of the GNFS to work extra hard and to educate the population on fire safety measures to minimise the incidents of fire outbreaks. Dr Apea-Kubi was inaugurating six fire tenders purchased by the government for onward distribution to selected fire stations in the Region.

The beneficiaries are the Akyem Oda, Akosombo, Nkawkaw, Mampong, Asamankese and Koforidua Fire Stations

The Regional Minister charged the fire men to take good care of the facilities to help prolong their life span. Dr Apea-Kubi said the Government was in the process of acquiring additional 70 fire tenders from Belgium to be districted to stations without fire tenders.

Bartholomew Kofi Nketsia, the Regional Fire Commander, who received the keys of the vehicles, praised the Government and said the tenders had come at the right time when those stations were badly in need of them. He said the new tenders would boost the morale of fire men at those stations and appealed to his people to reciprocate the gesture by working hard.
