Govt commended for using Rural Banks in poverty reduction

Awutu-Bawjiase (C/R), Aug 24, GNA – The Government has been commended for using rural banks to implement the various poverty reduction schemes Mr Emmanuel K Osei, an executive member of the Central Regional Chapter of the Association of Rural Banks (ARB) and Chairman of the Awutu-Bawjiase Area Rural Bank’s Board of Directors, praised the government at the quarterly review meeting of the bank at Bawjiase. He said the decision to channel funds for the implementation of the important economic development schemes through rural and community banks was not only encouraging, but showed the trust and confidence that the Government had in them.

Mr Osei charged rural banks selected for the disbursement of the Government’s poverty reduction programmes to ensure honesty to attract more Government and donor support.

In separate interviews with managers of the Bawjiase Area Rural Bank, the Akyempim and Emasa Rural Banks at Gomoa-Dawurampong and Awutu-Beraku, the managers expressed similar sentiments and promised to work harder to ensure the success of the Government’s micro credit schemes.

They, however, advised beneficiaries to honour their repayment obligations to sustain the facilities.
