Drobo (B/A), Sept 15, GNA – The Rev Dr Owusu Akyeaw, facilitator at a training workshop for board members of health insurance schemes in Jaman South and Jaman North districts at Drobo, has commended the government for taking bold decision on petroleum deregulation. He said the government had set a precedent for the benefit of future generations and that the long-term positive impact of the policy would far outweigh the current hardships.
Rev Akyeaw explained that deregulation would create competition in the petroleum industry, thereby causing fuel prices to reduce. He urged the board members to remain focused and to plan towards the sustainability of the scheme.
Mr Ampaabeng Kyeremeh, general secretary of the Centre for Leadership and Management Development that organised the workshop, called for effective management and constant supervision to ensure the sustainability of the health insurance scheme.
Mr. Sylvester Kwaku Dapaa, chairman of the board, expressed worry about problems resulting from clients’ poor adherence to the gatekeeper system of assessing health care, notwithstanding the fact that the private health facilities had been roped into the system. Mr. Ralph Dagoe, Jaman South District Director of Health Service, urged the board members to ensure tight security measures against health providers to thwart any attempt to dupe the scheme.
