The office of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) flagbearer, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has described as unintelligent claims by government that Nana Addo has on behalf of a private entity petitioned government for the payment of some judgment debts.
The Ministry of Information at a Press Conference on Monday produced a letter purportedly written by Nana Addo in which he pleads for the payment $1.1 million to Swiss based Great Cape Company Limited whose contract with government was terminated in the 90’s.
According to deputy Minister of Information, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa it is hypocritical for Nana Addo who is fronting for judgment debt to be paid to a company will state on several platforms that he will ensure cases of judgment debt does not arrive under his presidency.
Speaking to XYZ News, spokesperson for the NPP flagbearer, Mustafa Hamid said Nana Addo did nothing wrong in prompting government to pay what he described as legitimate claims by the company.
According to him, attempt by government to discredit the NPP flagbearer of the NPP is unfortunate and unintelligent.
“We are not surprised, it is not factual in anyway, they are just not being clever…Nana Addo is saying that we [NPP] will not make illegitimate claims.
“What we are saying Akufo-Addo will not go behind the scenes and negotiate at the blind side of the court like in the case of Woyome when the court said don’t pay and they [NDC] paid”.
Meanwhile, the Ghana Integrity Initiative says the seeming accusations and counter accusations by government and the opposition NPP over judgment debt payments is unnecessary.
George Amoh, legal officer at the Ghana Integrity Initiative in an interview with XYZ News said the counter accusations have polarized the nation such that people do not consider issues on national interest but on political interest.**
