Koforidua, March 4, GNA- A member of the Governing Council of the African Peer Review Mechanism, Ms Gloria Ofori-Boadu has advocated the payment of sitting allowances to members of the unit committees to motivate them to give of their best.

She said the financial incentive would also promote good governance at the grassroots.

Ms Ofori-Boadu was speaking on the topic: Legal Framework of Local Government”, at a democratic and human rights education training workshop in Koforidua for women groups in the Eastern Region. She observed that the state had used resources to conduct the election of members of the unit committees hence the need to look at how best to make them efficient.

She explained that assembly members were very important because they are the first point of contact in every community.
