Govt asked to get doctors to accept postings to northern regions

Bolgatanga, (UE) March 16, GNA – The Paramount Chief of the Binduri Traditional Area in the Upper East Region, Naba Robert Akapwine Akolbila, has urged the government to initiate pragmatic measures to motivate doctors to accept postings to the three Northern Regions.

Naba Akolbila noted that the lack of incentives, among others issues= , was the major reason medical doctors did not accept posting to these areas. He said when the government implements a special financial package suc= h as providing quality education to the wards of doctors, sponsorship for higher education abroad and decent accommodation they would be willing to serve in these areas. Naba Akolbila made the call in an interview with the Ghana News Agency (GNA) at Bolgatanga.

Naba Akolbila, however, commended the government for its swift attention to the outbreak of the Cerebrospinal Meningitis (CSM) disease in the Northern and Upper West Regions. Naba Akolbila said there had not been any reported case of CSM in the Binduri Traditional Area, but the Traditional Council was putting measures in place to prevent any outbreak.

Naba Akolbila appealed to the government to provide adequate health facilities to the area and renovate the existing ones, which include the Community Based Planning Service Compounds (CHPS), which he said, were the immediate health care facility one could access. He gave the assurance to the Ghana Health Service of the Council’s commitment to play an effective role in educating the people on the symptom= s and the mode of spread of the CSM.

Naba Akolbila appealed to the people in the area to practice good personal hygiene since this was the only way to live healthier lives to support the development of the area.
