New government appointees to the various metropolitan, municipal and district assemblies in the Central Region are to be sworn in on Friday.
A statement from the Central Regional Coordinating Council signed by the Chief Director, Kwame Oppong, directed all the assemblies within the region to liaise with the various district magistrates to facilitate the swearing in of the appointees.
It said following the revocation of all appointees of the previous administration, a list of new appointees nominated by the current government, was submitted to the Ministry of Local Government and Rural Development for consideration.
Under the current Local Government Act, the president is required to appoint 30 per cent of the members of the respective metropolitan, municipal and district assemblies.
There have been calls in the past years by some local government experts to scrap the 30 per cent appointees because its purpose has been defeated by partisan politics.
A local governance expert, George Kyei Baffour in 2015 backed calls for the scrapping of the appointees, arguing that the main idea of appointing technical people to complement the work of the assembly members had now become more partisan.
