Gov’t Announces Plans To Terminate National Cathedral Contract

President John Mahama has instructed the Attorney-General and Minister for Justice, Dr. Dominic Ayine, to take legal steps to terminate the existing contract tied to the National Cathedral project.

According to the Minister for Government Communications, Felix Kwakye Ofosu, the move is to prevent further costs and losses to the state.

Mr. Ofosu announced this at a press conference on Friday, July 18, 2025, following an independent audit report by Deloitte and Touche.

The Abura Asebu Kwamankese MP indicated that the report uncovered widespread financial irregularities, procurement breaches, and unsupported expenditures within the secretariat’s operations between 2021 and 2023.

He said the audit report uncovered unaccounted payments, violations of procurement laws, and overlapping contractual roles.

Kwakye-Ofosu emphasized that the Auditor-General will commission a forensic audit and decisive action will be taken regarding any impropriety determined and the future of the project itself.
