Government’s actions not helping Ghana’s economic independence – Ernesto Yeboah

President Nana Akufo-Addo is somebody who doesn’t need to struggle to inspire the nation. He is convicted in his way, and when he speaks, you can see clearly that, he is somebody you can trust.

I would expect that he will be bold enough to take the bull by the horn, Ernesto Yeboah, Commander-In-Chief of the Youth League of the Convention People’s Party (CPP), has stated.

Speaking in an interview on Frontline on Rainbow Radio 87.5Fm, Mr. Yeboah said he was happy that the president in his maiden State of the Nation Address, called on Ghanaians to break away from the shackles of the “Guggisberg” colonial economy and a mind-set of dependency, bailouts and extraction but was quick to add that, ‘’when I match their actions and what the president said, it doesn’t match up.’’

Ernesto Yeboah said, you claim you want to break away from the shackles of the ‘’Guggisberg’’ colonial economy yet your Finance Minister has announced to the world that government has called for an extension of the IMF/ World Bank Programme.

It means you don’t have a plan. Aside that, you have also agreed to the Millennium Challenge Compact Agreement.

Just two weeks ago, you have handed over your agric sector to the US AID and they are illegally distributing genetically modified foods (GMOs) in the Northern region and across the country.’’ The outspoken youth leader said ‘’we hope that our president will have the courage to ensure that things will not go in that direction.’’

Ernesto Yeboah was of the view that, a State of the Nation should focus on ‘’how much of state resources are in the hands of Ghanaians. The next State of the Nation should focus on this…This is economic freedom.

Dr. Kwame Nkrumah and his team did not just fight for political independence, but they fought for political independence because they wanted economic freedom, and we hope our leaders of today will not disappoint us,’’ he concluded.
