Government will fulfil its promises – President Mills

Accra, Sept. 2, GNA – President John Evans Atta Mills on Wednesday gave Ghanaians the assurance that Government would not fail to deliver on its promises of improving on their standard of living. “We can see light at the end of the tunnel,” he said when the Nayiri, Na Bohagu Mahami Sheriga, Paramount Chief of Mamprugu Traditional Area, in the Northern Region, led a delegation to pay a courtesy call on him at the Castle, Osu.

He acknowledged that the Government’s success would be determined by the extent to which it met the aspirations of Ghanaians and that it had no option than to deliver to ensure its return to power in 2012. “Government is committed to work closely with all stakeholders to create jobs, ensure better housing and address the legitimate concerns of Ghanaians, “he said. President Mills noted that there were teething problems, but with patience, hard work and selflessness, Government would deliver to the satisfaction of Ghanaians, adding “Government has four years to carry out its programmes.”

He expressed appreciation to the chiefs and people of Mamprugu for maintaining peace to attract investments in the area. Mr. Edmund Dramani Mahama, a Legal Practitioner and Nagboranaa, Divisional Chief of Nagbora, Spokesman for the delegation, congratulated President Mills on assumption to the highest political office of the land, and wished him a successful term. He called for the rehabilitation of the Walewale-Gambaga-Bukpurungu road and construction of more roads in the Region. Mr Mahama called for the establishment of a Teacher Training College “even if in temporary buildings” in the area to improve education in Mamprugu.

Other requests made were: hospitals, potable water, re-demarcation of the districts in the Northern Region adding that the creation of a new district in the area would facilitate an efficient political administration. 2 Sept. 09
