Government wants to render doctors unemployed – Ghana Medical Association

Ghana Medical Association (GMA) has accused the government of trying to render medical doctors unemployed.

The GMA believes that the quota system of employing doctors is a way of government telling the Ghanaian doctor that they cannot be employed.

Speaking to the media, the General Secretary of the Association, Dr. Frank Serebour said there are other ways of addressing issues of employment within the medical fraternity than putting quota systems in place.

He dismissed the accession that the GMA is just kicking against the policy but rather challenged the government to come clean on the issue.

He said the GMA will be happy to hear if doctors will be treated as any normal graduate.

“Tell doctors to apply for jobs after their housemanship and where there are vacancies they will be employed” he stressed.

He cautioned that the government should be careful in bringing such things on board or else doctors will be writing external exams that will aid them to travel outside to practice their profession.
